For over 135 years, NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) has cultivated exceptional global leaders. The International Relations MA program (MAIR) upholds this legacy by equipping students with comprehensive training in international affairs through an academically rigorous curriculum. Our graduate program examines International Relations through multiple disciplinary lenses and diverse methodological approaches. By collaborating with scholars across GSAS and partnering with NYU's Law School, Stern School of Business, and Wagner School of Public Service, MAIR students enjoy extensive academic flexibility to customize their degree path and professional development. Additionally, the program facilitates engaging discussions through events featuring scholars, professionals, and students to foster intellectual exchange within the discipline.
Each semester, the program publishes a selection of approved elective courses in Middle East and Levantine Studies. With program director approval, students may incorporate other NYU courses into their electives, though some may require instructor consent. Additionally, students must achieve advanced proficiency in a North African or Middle Eastern language (including Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Greek, Hebrew, or Armenian).
