For over 135 years, NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) has cultivated global leaders. The MA in International Relations (MAIR) upholds this legacy by equipping students with comprehensive training in international affairs through an academically rigorous program. Our graduate curriculum examines International Relations through multiple disciplinary lenses and methodological approaches. By collaborating with faculty across GSAS, as well as experts from the Law School, Stern School of Business, and Wagner School of Public Service, MAIR students enjoy diverse academic pathways to customize their professional development. The program also fosters intellectual exchange through events featuring scholars, practitioners, and peers to stimulate discourse in the field.
Each semester, the program publishes a selection of approved elective courses in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Additional NYU courses may qualify as electives with program director approval, though some may require instructor consent. Language proficiency requirements include achieving advanced competency in a Latin American or Caribbean language (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), demonstrated through examination, completing a third-year language course with a B or better, or having completed primary/secondary education in the relevant language.
