The Master of Arts in European and Mediterranean Studies is an interdisciplinary social sciences and humanities program that equips students with advanced expertise about Europe and its connections to the broader Mediterranean area. This program leverages the strengths of NYU's established country-specific programs in French, Italian, and Hellenic studies, along with various disciplinary departments, while also offering unique courses.
Students can finish the degree within one year by completing fall, spring, and summer semesters (including both summer sessions). The program encourages European research projects or internships, with NYU's European study-abroad locations available as research bases. The Center for European and Mediterranean Studies provides customized, interdisciplinary education through its MA program and joint-degree options. With adaptable requirements, students can design their curriculum across diverse fields such as political science, cultural studies, anthropology, art history, and various regional studies including French, Italian, German, Irish, and Mediterranean studies. Beyond CEMS courses, participants may enroll in classes across GSAS departments and other NYU schools.
