New York University's Social Psychology doctoral program provides comprehensive education in analyzing social psychology and behavior through scientific methods. The curriculum covers psychological theories, principles, and research techniques essential for examining human interactions across individuals, groups, and organizations. A multi-level analytical framework is central to our approach, primarily focusing on individual and situational factors while exploring the cognitive, emotional, and motivational mechanisms behind social conduct. This perspective also investigates how broader political, social, and organizational influences shape these processes, as well as their biological foundations in neural and physiological systems. Our methodological training mirrors this multi-level approach, equipping students with expertise in advanced quantitative analysis and diverse techniques including behavioral experiments, psychophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, social media analytics, experience sampling, online research, dyadic assessments, computational modeling, and field studies. The department provides specialized facilities for fMRI, EEG/ERP, eye-tracking, and psychophysiological measurements. Beyond theoretical exploration, we emphasize applying research to practical challenges. While investigating fundamental aspects of social cognition and motivation, our ultimate objectives include understanding everyday human behaviors, addressing critical social problems, and delivering rigorous scientific insights to policymakers and social service professionals.
