The demanding Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health program at GPH enables you to integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, blending cutting-edge ideas with real-world implementation. You'll collaborate closely with and receive mentorship from distinguished faculty within NYU's worldwide, cross-disciplinary community, working on pioneering research to address global public health challenges.
You can customize your academic journey by choosing one of four specializations—Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Social & Behavioral Sciences, or Public Health Policy & Management—to develop the creative mindset and skills necessary for a thriving career in academia and/or research.
The Biostatistics specialization equips students for professional roles involving the creation and implementation of statistical techniques to enhance public health and biomedical research. This curriculum trains learners to become autonomous scholars in biostatistical theory, methodology, and application. The program combines classroom instruction, consulting experience, scientific teamwork, and guided independent study. Dissertation projects typically address significant public health challenges requiring innovative statistical approaches for study design or data interpretation. Graduates will emerge with comprehensive expertise in statistical computing, public health sciences, and effective communication across disciplines.
