The English Department enthusiastically invites qualified candidates to engage in advanced graduate studies. As a comprehensive department, we emphasize both traditional historical perspectives on English and American literature while fostering creative methodologies and a broad interpretation of potential research topics. Our faculty and graduate students specialize across all periods, with notable concentrations in Medieval/Renaissance studies, modernism, post-colonialism, Latino/Latina literature, and African American studies. We collaborate extensively with Comparative Literature on joint certificates in Poetics and Theory as well as CALAMEGS, partner with Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and contribute to the Digital Humanities certificate program. Graduate students actively establish and fund their own research collectives, including current groups focused on African Diaspora studies, Digital Culture, Postcolonial Theory, Creative Writing, and numerous other interdisciplinary initiatives.
