The rigorous and selective Global Public Health (GPH) undergraduate majors enable CAS students to pursue an interdisciplinary program blending public health with another College discipline (GPH must be paired with another major). Students benefit from faculty and courses across NYU's entire academic community. This innovative approach addresses the growing global need for public health professionals with cross-disciplinary expertise. The curriculum combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences and study abroad components, equipping graduates with versatile skills for diverse career paths.
NYU's School of Global Public Health (GPH) provides the global public health coursework for these majors. GPH offers interdisciplinary public health education across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Leveraging NYU's worldwide Global Network University system and the innovative spirit of its academic community, GPH serves as a hub for transformative research and education aimed at achieving health equity worldwide.
Students in this dual program focus on chemistry - the foundational science bridging physics, mathematics, and life sciences.
Departmental advising is essential for students undertaking this challenging program. Unlike other Chemistry Department majors and minors, BIOL-UA 11 Principles of Biology I and BIOL-UA 12 Principles of Biology II are not mandatory for this major, though prehealth students must complete these courses alongside the major requirements. Students must also fulfill all College Core Curriculum requirements (First-Year Seminar, foreign language, expository writing, and Foundations of Contemporary Culture). Strategic planning is vital to complete all major, prehealth, and core requirements within four years.
Combined major students must meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies or departmental advisor to develop a course plan, particularly since this program includes a mandatory semester of study abroad.
