Designed for music majors, this combined program enables you to obtain both a Bachelor of Music in Composition or Performance and a Master of Arts in Music Education within five years. Graduates will hold a BM and MA degree while qualifying for New York State teaching certification in music for pre-K through 12th grade. Please note: Admissions for the Bachelor of Music in Music and Master of Arts in Music Education, All Grades, Initial Certification program are currently on hold to better serve student needs. The curriculum includes foundational liberal arts courses across humanities, social sciences, and scientific disciplines, along with core music studies in history, theory, aural skills, and keyboard harmony/improvisation. During your graduate year, you'll acquire hands-on teaching experience through student teaching placements, preparing you for a career as a creative music educator.
This dual degree qualifies graduates for New York State initial teaching certification in music (PK-12) after completing two semesters of supervised student teaching in NYC public/private schools and community music programs under guidance from veteran music educators and teaching artists.
