The Photography and Imaging program, integrated with a university's diverse academic offerings, allows students to tailor their studies to align with personal interests and professional aspirations. First-year foundational classes such as Photography and Imaging Analog and Digital introduce students to traditional and digital photographic techniques in monochrome and color. Through structured assignments and independent projects, students develop their skills. Additionally, first-year students enroll in Contemporary Imaging Practice, a core studio course, and Culture, History, Imaging, and Photography Studies (CHIPS), which serves as an introduction to critical analysis. These critical studies courses examine the multifaceted role of visual culture in modern society and across history, investigating image interpretation, their connections to media and institutions, and the influence of technological advancements within this academic field.

At the sophomore level, Photography and Imaging Multimedia courses expand students' digital expertise, allowing them to focus on areas like video, digital storytelling, or post-photographic techniques. Critical studies options include the Social History of Photography and Aesthetic History of Photography. Upperclassmen can choose from an array of specialized studio courses, some available as early as sophomore year, such as Documentary Strategies, Design Projects, Portraiture, Lighting, Emerging Media Studio, Archive-Based Projects, and Directed Projects, where students pursue semester-long independent work. Intermediate and advanced critical studies cover subjects like Contemporary Photography, Black Body and the Lens, Asian Photography, and rotating Advanced History Seminars. Juniors and seniors gain hands-on experience through internships in artist studios, galleries, museums, web design firms, publishing, commercial photography, and community education. The program supports double majors, minors, and study abroad opportunities. Seniors complete a yearlong thesis project, showcased in spring exhibitions, and can take a Business of Art course to explore career pathways after graduation.
