The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Design is a four-year, multidisciplinary program that covers core principles of game design, development, and academic analysis, all built upon a robust liberal arts education. Learners explore both theoretical and practical aspects of game creation across digital and non-digital platforms. The curriculum spans diverse topics, from game history and academic research to player psychology and the mathematical foundations of game mechanics. Our alumni emerge as innovative game developers, insightful critics, and influential scholars poised to transform the field.
The program begins with foundational studies examining games through design, technical, and cultural perspectives. As students advance, they gain the autonomy to shape their educational path and creative focus. Many specialize in areas like visual arts, animation, sound design, coding, narrative development, production leadership, or business planning. Alongside departmental requirements, students fulfill general education credits through NYU's wide-ranging liberal arts offerings across various schools. The program culminates in year-long senior Capstone projects, completed either independently or collaboratively within teams.
