The BFA in Dramatic Writing consists of three components: specialized writing courses (covering core writing, text analysis, and production), general education requirements, and elective options. Applicants can join either as first-year students or transfers. This comprehensive program teaches students to examine dramatic texts from ancient Greek origins, master production fundamentals, experience performance arts, and hone their craft through rigorous writing workshops.
In their initial two years, students build a robust liberal arts foundation while perfecting their writing technique. This arts and humanities foundation fosters creative and intellectual growth - crucial elements for aspiring writers.
After completing one or two years of college, students typically focus on specific interests. For upperclassmen, dramatic writing courses provide professional preparation, with work evaluated by established authors using industry standards. Students gain practical industry insights through interactions with producers, agents, and directors - key collaborators for dramatic writers.
This four-year, full-time undergraduate program culminates with seniors expected to produce multiple complete works for theater, film, or television formats.
