The Gallatin School of Individualized Study has partnered with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service to offer a combined BA/MPA program, allowing students to simultaneously pursue an individualized Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration. Students can specialize in either Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy (PNP) or Health Policy and Management (HPAM), completing both degrees faster than if pursued independently. This accelerated pathway is ideal for aspiring public leaders seeking to deepen their expertise and launch impactful careers in public service.
Qualified Gallatin undergraduates may take up to seven Wagner MPA courses (typically five core classes and two concentration electives) out of the fifteen required for graduation. Following their bachelor's degree, students typically finish remaining MPA requirements within one to two years at Wagner. The combined program requires 152 credits, compared to 173 credits if degrees are pursued separately.
While Gallatin students gain early access to graduate-level coursework, they must still formally apply to Wagner's MPA program during their senior year. Admission follows standard Wagner criteria, including academic excellence and demonstrated professional engagement through internships, volunteer work, or relevant employment.
