The undergraduate program in our department provides an extensive selection of courses covering the languages, cultures, and literary works of German-speaking regions. Students can pursue a German major, combine German with linguistics through a joint major, or pair German with global liberal studies. A German language minor is also available.
In addition to language instruction, we provide interdisciplinary courses in English exploring German culture, history, philosophy, art, and literature for students still developing their German proficiency.
Our department organizes a monthly lunch series, tutoring services, and supports the German club Goethes Tisch. We also present annual awards honoring exceptional undergraduate work in German language and literature studies. Deutsches Haus, NYU's German cultural hub, hosts diverse events including film screenings, concerts, lectures, and art exhibitions.
