Located within the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, the gender and sexuality studies (GSS) program promotes comprehensive cross-disciplinary exploration of gender and sexuality as fundamental dimensions of human existence throughout history. The curriculum places these concepts at the core of academic inquiry, examining their interplay with each other and their connections to race, ethnicity, geography, nationality, and cultural transmission. At its heart, the program empowers students to critically examine established gender and sexual conventions that are frequently portrayed as innate in both scholarly and everyday contexts. By doing so, GSS confronts the societal preference for certain classifications (such as male or heterosexual) over others, actively opposing the inequalities these hierarchies perpetuate.
