The Center for European and Mediterranean Studies (CEMS) provides an interdisciplinary program where students can major or minor in contemporary political, cultural, and societal trends or modern history across Europe and the Mediterranean. Honors thesis opportunities allow majors to collaborate closely with faculty on specialized research projects. All majors must demonstrate proficiency in a European language and complete a study abroad term at one of NYU's European campuses to gain in-depth regional knowledge. The minor program welcomes all students, particularly those studying European languages, history, or social sciences.
CEMS organizes diverse academic events such as lectures, workshops, and conferences covering Western, Eastern Europe, and Mediterranean topics. These programs prepare students for international careers in business, finance, diplomacy, law, and cultural institutions focused on Europe and the Mediterranean. Graduates have successfully entered advanced degree programs across various disciplines, including law school and doctoral studies.
