The Photography Concentration prepares students to become versatile modern image creators skilled in multimedia platforms. During the initial phase, students experiment with various aperture settings, shutter speeds, lenses, lighting equipment, and filters across diverse subjects. They investigate the impacts of over/underexposure and RAW processing on image aesthetics, produce a documentary photo essay with multimedia elements accompanied by an artist statement, and develop a cohesive fine-art portfolio on a unified theme.
As the program progresses, students master Adobe Photoshop—the industry-leading digital editing software—while learning non-destructive editing techniques. They discover the advantages of RAW processing, precise color adjustment methods, and professional selection/masking approaches. While studying various imaging specialties, students also acquire crucial business skills like market research, project bidding, self-promotion, studio management, contract negotiation, exhibition preparation, and grant applications.
In the advanced phase, students enhance their foundational abilities while refining technical, artistic, and professional competencies. Concentrating on commercial photography, they study renowned professionals while tackling intensive studio lighting projects involving fashion, products, beauty, and architecture. Post-production training progresses to complex compositing, dynamic range expansion, and professional retouching methods. Students also experiment with alternative camera technologies and explore HD video features in modern DSLRs.
Complementing their coursework, students must produce and present both a personal exhibition-quality portfolio and a commercial photography project involving models, art direction, professional sets, and studio lighting equipment.
