Dive into the world of documentary film production and theory in New York City, the global hub for documentary filmmaking. The Graduate Certificate in Documentary Media Studies offers an immersive professional training program for aspiring filmmakers. Over twelve months, you'll create, film, direct, and finalize your own short documentary focusing on a New York City theme. While applicants need an accredited bachelor's degree and must provide a portfolio, prior filmmaking experience isn't mandatory.
A key feature of the rigorous one-year program is Doc Talks, a monthly screening event. This series brings in renowned documentary filmmakers and industry experts to discuss their projects and share valuable perspectives with students. Each spring, the Dorothy H. Hirshon Residency further enhances the program by hosting an acclaimed filmmaker who conducts exclusive master classes open to certificate students.
