The Master of Music program provides specialization in these disciplines: Conducting, Music Education, and Performance. Candidates need to hold a bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education comparable to New Mexico State University's B.M. or B.M.E. programs. While the Graduate Record Exam isn't mandatory, the Music Department requires all applicants to demonstrate advanced proficiency in language and writing abilities suitable for graduate studies.

A student seeking admission to graduate school at NMSU must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution. The academic program of the completed degree should be equivalent to a comparable NMSU degree's requirements.
