The TESOL program (without licensure) equips scholars, practitioners, and leaders to understand bilingual and multilingual education within school systems, family structures, and broader societal contexts. Located in the Southwest Borderlands, this program offers a distinctive perspective for analyzing challenges faced by Spanish-speaking communities and heritage language learners. A central focus involves promoting equity and social justice by empowering participants to become advocates for bilingual students, their families, and local communities. The program's international scope treats global contexts as extensions of borderland studies, preparing educators to teach English worldwide.
Students can select between two tracks: PreK-12 elective courses (33 credit hours) or International elective courses (36 credits)
This degree includes all coursework needed for the TESOL endorsement. For endorsement details, contact the New Mexico Public Education Department (https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/adding-endorsements/)
