To earn a Master of Applied Geography, students must complete at least 30 graduate credits, which includes 6 thesis credits and a successful thesis defense. Those selecting the thesis path must submit a digital version of their thesis and supporting data for archiving on both the Departmental Website and server. Alternatively, the non-thesis (residency) track requires 36 graduate credits, with at least 3 credits dedicated to professional residency and an approved final residency report, which must also be digitally archived. All students must achieve and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.00. Additionally, a grade of B or higher is mandatory in these core courses: GEOG 501 Research Design and History of Geographic Thought, GEOG 585 Spatial Analysis and Modelling, and one graduate-level GIS&T course, which can be taken before admission or prior to graduation. At least 15 credits must come from courses numbered 500 or above, with no more than 9 credits (for either the 30-credit thesis or 36-credit non-thesis option) allowed from outside the geography discipline.
