The department provides mathematics and statistics programs for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees. Undergraduate students can choose from various career-focused tracks, including applied mathematics and actuarial science. Our faculty conducts research across multiple domains of pure and applied mathematics, as well as mathematics education. Key research areas include commutative algebra, logic and foundations, probability and statistics, dynamical systems, mathematical biology, variational methods in partial differential equations (particularly for materials science), and applied/computational harmonic analysis with applications to machine learning and data science. We serve diverse disciplines across NMSU's main campus, offering courses for science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, agriculture, business, and education programs. Our curriculum includes foundational and general education courses that equip all students with essential quantitative reasoning skills required in today's professional landscape.
