A physics or engineering physics bachelor's degree serves as a foundation for various career paths in industry, education, military service, government roles, or pursuing advanced studies in physics or engineering. This degree equips graduates with essential skills that physics alumni consistently rank as crucial for their professional success, such as analytical problem-solving, computational proficiency, mathematical aptitude, hands-on laboratory experience, and comprehensive physics knowledge. Additional department details are available online at phys.nmsu.edu. New students (including transfers) are required to arrange an orientation session with either the department chair or undergraduate program director prior to their initial semester at NMSU. Each student will be paired with a physics faculty advisor to guide them through course planning, career development opportunities, internship/co-op programs, and related academic matters.
