Art Conservation focuses on preserving and restoring artworks along with other cultural and natural artifacts. The B.F.A. program with a Museum Conservation specialization offers students an academic framework to develop practical expertise while gaining comprehensive professional and theoretical insights into conserving items within museums or collections. This program blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, equipping students with analytical, quantitative, and managerial competencies essential for roles such as conservators, curators, registrars, collections managers, exhibit designers, and museum administrators—all of whom require specialized training in art handling and preservation. To graduate, students must fulfill all University requirements, including General Education, Viewing a Wider World courses, and elective credits totaling at least 120 credits, with 48 credits at the 300-level or higher. Developmental courses do not count toward degree requirements or electives but may be necessary to complete prerequisite English and Mathematics coursework.
