This institute focuses on cultivating student filmmakers' artistic talents by offering industry-aligned education, research opportunities, and collaborative projects in visual storytelling, culminating in a Bachelor of Creative Media degree. The program welcomes incoming NMSU students and facilitates credit transfers for those holding associate degrees from NMSU community colleges or similar institutions. With a strong liberal arts foundation, graduates can advance to higher education, specialized training, or careers in digital media fields. CMI's curriculum emphasizes teamwork rooted in media literacy, historical context, design principles, and hands-on experience. Students also gain access to internships in digital video, animation, visualization, simulation, and educational media production, both on-campus and at external facilities.

Throughout the program, students blend theory with practical application, working with professional-grade tools to craft text, audio, and visuals. CMI features advanced facilities including a digital projection screening room, post-production and animation labs, dedicated production spaces, a motion capture studio, and a THX-certified sound mixing theater.
