As one of the longest-standing departments at Newark College of Engineering, the Otto H. York Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering granted its initial three bachelor's degrees in 1923. This inherently multidisciplinary program bridges scientific and engineering domains related to materials and chemicals, with a stronger emphasis on engineering applications. Chemical engineers integrate chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics to produce materials and goods for contemporary society, engaging in processes that span from laboratory research to pilot testing and full-scale production.
The Graduate Certificate in Polymers and Plastics from NJIT's Department of Chemicals and Materials Engineering equips students to employ mathematical and scientific fundamentals in designing, developing, and assessing synthetic macromolecular compounds for specialized engineering applications. This encompasses creating customized industrial materials, engineering lightweight structural components, utilizing polymer substances in various states, and overseeing polymerization procedures.
