Data science involves analyzing and interpreting data to uncover meaningful patterns and insights that enhance decision-making and problem-solving. This field finds expanding uses across healthcare, finance, marketing, economics, genomics, social media, cybersecurity, journalism, and other data-driven domains. It draws from multiple academic disciplines including computer science and mathematics, incorporating areas like machine learning, statistical analysis, probability theory, linear algebra, programming, software development, high-performance computing, and cloud technologies. The Bachelor of Science in Data Science offers two specialization tracks: Computing (through the Ying Wu College of Computing) and Statistics (administered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences within the College of Science and Liberal Arts).
