Communication Studies is a versatile field offering core training in speech theory and practical skills, complemented by specialized courses that broaden perspectives on the subject. These include interpersonal dynamics, team collaboration, workplace communication, cross-cultural interactions, debate techniques, media studies, competitive speaking, and research methodologies.
The curriculum challenges learners to evaluate information critically, choose and investigate relevant topics, and structure compelling arguments. Participants will master verbal and nonverbal delivery techniques while utilizing visual supports to engage audiences effectively. The program emphasizes developing adaptable communication strategies for various scenarios, crafting audience-specific messages, and enhancing self-awareness as communicators.
To obtain an Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer, candidates must complete 60 transferable semester units to CSU, including either IGETC or CSU GE requirements plus 18 major units. A minimum 2.0 GPA in transferable courses and C grades or higher in major courses are required. This transfer degree exempts students from additional local graduation mandates.
