Montclair State University offers New Jersey's inaugural Graduate Certificate in Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning, uniquely crafted to equip educators with skills for centering inquiry and argumentation across all subjects. This program enables participants to master argumentation fundamentals, utilize classroom discussions to spark independent student investigations and cooperative reasoning, while exploring the ethical, social, and political aspects of knowledge formation in democratic contexts.

The program's instructors bring years of expertise in both teaching and researching areas including formal/informal logic, argumentation theory, Socratic methods, inquiry communities, storytelling circles, dialogic instruction, childhood philosophy, democratic principles, equity-focused education, research methodologies, and similar disciplines. Furthermore, all faculty members are associated with Montclair State's Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children - the longest-standing global institution dedicated to fostering philosophical engagement among youth.

Qualification Requirements

The Graduate School requires the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree in order to be eligible to apply for a graduate program.
Transcript: One from each college attended.
Letters of Recommendation: Two.
A minimum TOEFL score of at least 83 on the internet-based test (iBT) or 62 on the paper-based test (pBT).
For IELTS test takers, the minimum required score is 6.5.
