Theatre Studies equips students with comprehensive knowledge of the theatrical arts while highlighting connections between stage productions and societal contexts. A foundational set of courses in dramatic literature, history, and interdisciplinary performance bridges the gap between written works and live performances, as well as theatre's role in culture. The BA in Theatre Studies establishes core competencies in performance, dramatic literature, theatre history, dramaturgy, and technical theatre within a liberal arts framework.
The B.A. in Theatre Studies delivers a well-rounded, personalized theatre education complemented by a robust liberal arts foundation. As a Theatre Studies major, you'll engage with all facets of theatrical production - from playwriting for stage and screen to dramaturgy, stage management, directing, and technical production. Our flexible program encourages participation in diverse campus and community projects. Unique to our B.A. program are teaching certification options and our accelerated 4+1 pathway to earn a master's degree with just one additional year. Students gain hands-on experience through departmental productions as assistant directors, dramaturgs, and technicians while developing collaborative initiatives.
