To obtain P-12 teacher certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), candidates must complete an application and gain acceptance into the Teacher Education Program. The professional course sequence and essential Program details, including policies and processes, can be found on the Teacher Education Program's official website. It is highly recommended that applicants thoroughly examine the Teacher Education Program Handbook. Admission requires maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA in Linguistics coursework and an overall 3.0 GPA. The mandatory TESL methods course for the professional sequence is LNGN 403. Furthermore, before entering the Student Teaching semester, candidates must achieve at least an Advanced-mid rating on both the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Writing Proficiency Test (WPT).
