The Graduate Programs in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry primarily award Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry, though we are currently accepting direct applications for Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in both fields. Our twenty active research faculty specialize in diverse areas including analytical chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, materials science, and physical chemistry. Their expertise spans complementary specialties such as chemical synthesis, microbiological techniques, molecular structure analysis, spectroscopy, and reaction mechanisms. Our department fosters highly collaborative research, providing students with interdisciplinary opportunities both within the university and internationally.

Qualification Requirements

A bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited, government-recognized university. These degrees are generally four-year-long programs. B average or higher from your undergraduate study (3.0/4.0 GPA, or equivalent).

A TOEFL total score of 90 is required with a minimum speaking score of 26 to qualify for admission to our programs and for a teaching assistantship. A total minimum score of 7.0 is required on the IELTS exam and a speaking component score of 8.0 to qualify for a teaching assistantship.
