This program provides the essential groundwork to launch your career or pursue advanced studies in physics or other disciplines like law or medicine.
With a flexible curriculum featuring numerous electives, you can work with your advisor to design a customized plan that aligns with your goals. This flexibility also facilitates minoring in computer science, mathematics, or other areas.
Physics serves as the cornerstone of scientific understanding, revealing how our universe operates and underpinning nearly every technological advancement. Every natural phenomenon adheres to physics principles, which physicists translate into mathematical frameworks to predict behaviors across all scales - from subatomic particles like quarks and electrons to cosmic entities such as black holes and galaxies. Physics drives innovation in modern technologies, including advanced materials, laser systems for communication and medical applications, electronic devices, quantum computing components, and instrumentation for space exploration.
At Missouri S&T, our physics department offers students hands-on experience with groundbreaking research under faculty guidance. Research areas span electron-atom collisions, laser-atom interactions, novel material properties, quantum phenomena at extreme temperatures, cosmological studies of dark energy, and gravitational wave detection. Our physics students regularly showcase their findings at state-wide competitions and national conferences.
