As a history student, you'll study under nationally renowned scholars in small, engaging classes. You'll also get hands-on research experience working directly with these distinguished historians.
The history and political science department provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options in History, along with multiple minor programs. History majors can combine their Bachelor of Arts with a secondary education certification, qualifying them to teach history at the high school level (grades 9-12) within the state.
History satisfies humanity's timeless curiosity about our collective past. Accordingly, history students explore diverse courses highlighting human experiences, personal decisions, cultural values, and evolving worldviews. The curriculum examines our shared heritage from ancient fossils to modern nuclear age.
This comprehensive program features introductory surveys, focused period/topic studies, and specialized seminar courses. At Missouri S&T, your history and political science classes are primarily taught by PhD-holding faculty who are actively publishing scholars. A key program feature is personalized attention. Advanced courses maintain small class sizes to foster meaningful discussions, enhancing both knowledge acquisition and student-faculty relationships while promoting deeper understanding.

Qualification Requirements
Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).
International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.
Missouri S&T may request that you provide an official transcript evaluation from the World Education Services (WES). If this is required, it will be visible on your application checklist after submission of your application, or an admissions representative will contact you to request it.
Minimum English proficiency test score requirements are 80 for TOEFL, 6.5 for IELTS, 58 for PTE, or 105 for Duolingo. We also accept SAT ERW score minimum of 500.
