The history and political science department provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options in History, along with multiple minor programs. History majors can also combine a Bachelor of Arts with a secondary education certification, qualifying them to teach history at the high school level (grades 9-12) within the state.
History satisfies humanity's timeless curiosity about our collective past. Accordingly, history students explore diverse courses that highlight human experiences, personal decisions, cultural values, and evolving worldviews. The curriculum spans humanity's entire recorded legacy, from ancient fossils to contemporary nuclear age developments.
This comprehensive program features foundational survey courses, focused period or thematic studies, and specialized seminar topics. At Missouri S&T, nearly all history and political science courses are taught by published scholars holding Ph.D. degrees. A defining feature of the program is personalized attention. Advanced courses maintain intentionally small class sizes to foster meaningful discussions, enabling deeper comprehension, broader perspectives, and valuable mentoring relationships between students and professors.
