S&T provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science options for chemistry undergraduates. The ACS Committee on Professional Training (CPT) evaluated the department's 2021 periodic review, confirmed the program's compliance with ACS standards, and endorsed ongoing ACS accreditation for the B.S. program. This enables the department to keep awarding certificates to its graduates. The subsequent program review is scheduled for 2027.
The Bachelor of Arts program delivers a comprehensive liberal arts foundation while enabling chemistry majors to tailor their studies to specific professional aspirations. Students may also opt for the 'Secondary Education emphasis track, specifically structured for those pursuing careers in secondary school teaching. The Chemistry Department collaborates extensively with the Education Department to integrate contemporary teaching methods into STEM instruction and vice versa. This curriculum holds approval from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Prospective educators planning to teach outside Missouri should verify reciprocity agreements with their intended state's education authority.
