The Department of Forestry provides advanced degree programs culminating in a Master of Science in forestry or a Doctor of Philosophy in forest resources. Students can focus on specialized fields such as forest business, management economics, genetic research, hydrology and soil studies, silviculture, biometric analysis, photogrammetry and remote sensing, tree and seed physiology, harvesting operations, and forest ecophysiology. Through the MSU Forest and Wildlife Research Center, the department conducts comprehensive research initiatives, offering graduate students diverse thesis and dissertation opportunities under faculty guidance.

Qualification Requirements

Have a 4-year degree from an accredited institution. For international students, TOEFL (PBT) >=550, TOEFL (iBT) >=79 or IELTS >=6.5.
GPA >= 3.0 for the last two years of Bachelor degree coursework
Complete all application forms for the MSU Graduate School
Provide certified transcripts or official academic records of all college studies
Provide three letters of recommendation to the MSU Graduate School
Provide a statement of purpose supporting your intentions to enter the graduate program
Provide documented evidence of financial support if not supported by Departmental assistantship (international students only)

a TOEFL score of 550 PBT (79 iBT) or IELTS score of 6.5 or higher for regular admission of international students or a TOEFL score between 477 and 549 (or IELTS equivalent) for conditional admission, and
acceptance by a faculty member who will serve as the student's major professor.
