The Automotive Engineering Certificate enriches a student's learning in specialized topics pertaining to automotive engineering. Created to support Mississippi's automotive manufacturing sector, this program offers students a chance to concentrate on engineering principles and challenges associated with vehicle system design and production. It is an interdisciplinary initiative, welcoming participation from all engineering disciplines. Students can choose courses from Aerospace, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer, Computer Science, Engineering Mechanics, Industrial and Systems, and Mechanical Engineering. A mandatory vehicle design/build project, approved by the certificate director, is required—counted as a 3-credit Directed Individual Study (4000 for undergraduates/7000 for graduates). Joining the Society of Automotive Engineers student chapter is highly recommended. The certificate is overseen by an Automotive Engineering Committee of faculty with automotive industry expertise, working alongside the Engineering Dean's Office.
