The Chemistry Department provides two undergraduate degree options: the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), both requiring 124 credit hours for completion. These programs establish a strong academic base for pursuing advanced studies or careers in graduate education, teaching, healthcare fields like medicine and pharmacy, dentistry, or various industry roles.
The B.S. program features three specialized tracks: the American Chemical Society (ACS) track, Pre-Medical track, and Pre-Pharmacy track. The ACS track prepares students for industrial careers or advanced graduate studies, with the department maintaining continuous ACS accreditation since 1941 - this certification is awarded to graduates completing the ACS-track B.S. degree. The Pre-Medical track helps students fulfill medical school requirements, combining essential biology coursework with specialized chemistry classes that ready students for the demands of medical, dental, or other professional programs, following the University of Mississippi Medical Center's (UMMC) prerequisites. The Pre-Pharmacy track aligns with the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy's entry requirements, which generally correspond to other pharmacy programs' standards, though students aiming for different pharmacy schools should consult their academic advisor.
