Exploring any language and culture enables students to gain fresh perspectives on their own linguistic and cultural background in ways otherwise inaccessible. We consider this fundamental to educating Mississippi students and advancing our land-grant university's mission by equipping them with analytical and language skills to envision possibilities beyond English-only limitations and provincial boundaries—whether or not they physically travel abroad. German studies expands worldviews for participation in our interconnected global society. Annually, we organize a summer faculty-led study abroad program in Berlin where students earn Mississippi State University credits. Options include a four-week course, six-week immersion, and a 10-week program featuring an internship related to the student's academic discipline.
