The Ornamental Horticulture field explores both the artistic and scientific aspects of plant cultivation. MiraCosta's Horticulture program covers sustainable landscape design, installation, and upkeep, along with nursery operations, organic farming, and viticulture studies. Learners enroll in horticulture classes to pursue academic majors, obtain career-focused certifications, acquire CEUs for professional licensing, or meet general education needs. Potential career paths span nursery operations, urban farming, landscape architecture, water-efficient irrigation systems, landscape planning and implementation, sports turf maintenance, urban tree care, horticultural retail, orchard and vineyard supervision, and wine production. By finishing a certificate program and MiraCosta's general education requirements, students can earn an Associate in Arts degree with specialized horticulture concentrations (refer to Associate Degrees section).
