Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division prerequisites for a sociology major, a specialized track within sociology, or a comparable degree at participating California State University (CSU) institutions. After transferring to a CSU campus, students will need to complete a maximum of 60 additional units to earn their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree might not suit students planning to transfer to non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. For guidance on the optimal transfer path as a sociology major and to identify participating CSU campuses, students should meet with a MiraCosta counselor. Graduates of this program will be able to: demonstrate how social forces shape individual opportunities, examine institutional influences on personal outcomes, analyze the interplay of race, class, gender, and sexuality in social structures, and interpret research data while effectively presenting findings.
