Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division prerequisites for an American Studies major, a specialization within American Studies, or a comparable degree like Public Administration at participating California State University (CSU) institutions. After transferring to a CSU campus, students will need no more than 60 additional units to complete their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree might not suit students planning to transfer to non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. MiraCosta counselors can provide guidance on the optimal transfer path for American Studies or Public Administration majors and confirm which CSU campuses participate in this program. Graduates will gain foundational knowledge of American legal principles and their relevance to modern social challenges, preparing them for transfer to CSU bachelor's programs in American Studies, Public Administration, or related fields.
