Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division prerequisites for an English major, a specialization within an English program, or a comparable degree at participating California State University (CSU) institutions. After transferring to a CSU campus that accepts this degree, students will need to complete a maximum of 60 additional units to earn their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. Note that this degree might not meet transfer requirements for non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. MiraCosta students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to explore the most streamlined transfer path as an English major and to identify which CSU campuses participate in this program. Upon completing this program, graduates will be able to analyze the relationship between literature and human experience—including how literature expresses, influences, and mirrors cultural values—and will develop strong writing skills adaptable to diverse purposes and audiences.
