The Art Department provides both theoretical and hands-on instruction across traditional art forms, art history, and contemporary mediums like photography and new genres. Art classes serve students pursuing an art or art history major, fulfilling general education credits, or exploring personal interests. Career opportunities range from professional artist and educator to graphic designer, photographer, sculptor, museum curator, conservator, appraiser, and roles in adjacent fields like marketing and advertising. This associate degree fulfills lower-division prerequisites for art history programs, specialized art history tracks, or similar degrees at participating CSU institutions. After transferring, students can complete their bachelor's degree within 60 additional units, though some CSU campuses may mandate extra lower-division coursework. Graduates will demonstrate proficiency in art historical analysis, recognize key artistic and architectural movements, and articulate insights about artworks, creators, and their cultural contexts.
