Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division prerequisites for a LGBTQ studies program, a social justice/LGBTQ studies concentration, or a similar degree at participating California State University (CSU) campuses. After transferring to an eligible CSU, students will need no more than 60 additional units to complete their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree may not suit students transferring to non-participating CSUs or institutions outside the CSU system. MiraCosta counselors can advise students on the optimal transfer path for social justice/LGBTQ studies majors and identify participating CSUs. Graduates of this program will be able to: explain gender dynamics in interpersonal, group, and institutional contexts, and analyze how gender intersects with race, class, sexuality, ethnicity, age, ability, and other identities to influence societal experiences.
