Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division major preparation requirements for a Chicano/a studies program, a social justice/Chicano/a studies emphasis, or a similar degree at participating California State University (CSU) campuses. After transferring to a participating CSU, students will need to complete a maximum of 60 additional units to earn their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree might not be suitable for students planning to transfer to non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. For guidance on the optimal transfer pathway as a Chicano Studies major and to identify participating CSU campuses, students should meet with a MiraCosta counselor. Graduates of this program will be equipped to evaluate how historical and cultural Chicano/x and Latinx experiences in the U.S. have shaped their contemporary realities.
