Integrated Engineering is delivered through an innovative engineering education initiative exclusive to Minnesota State Mankato. Iron Range Engineering operates in northeastern Minnesota's Iron Range region (Virginia, MN), while Twin Cities Engineering serves the Twin Cities metropolitan area (Bloomington, MN). The Iron Range Engineering program launches in Virginia, MN, where students pursue coursework while gaining professional experience with engineering firms throughout Minnesota and across the country.
These programs concentrate on the junior and senior years of the undergraduate engineering curriculum. Students enter their major following two years of pre-engineering studies at other institutions or at MSU Mankato.
Participants acquire conventional engineering knowledge and abilities within cooperative-education or project-centered learning environments. The Iron Range Engineering (IRE) educational approach employs an acclaimed project-based learning framework where students collaborate with industry partners on authentic design challenges, emphasizing the development of graduates with comprehensive design experience, professional expertise, and technical capabilities. Learning occurs within the context of design projects, whether in industrial settings or on campus.
The IRE educational framework prioritizes innovation, creativity, design proficiency, experimental methods, and modeling techniques, ultimately aiming to foster regional economic growth. The Integrated Engineering program enables students to customize their education to specialize in various engineering disciplines or to develop multidisciplinary expertise. Program completion leads to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.
