Our undergraduate French programs are designed for students aiming to achieve advanced proficiency in both French language and cultural studies. The curriculum emphasizes practical communication skills, with faculty fostering an immersive, student-focused learning atmosphere that facilitates idea sharing, cultivates cultural awareness, and deepens understanding of historical events, social institutions, and traditions. Learners engage in critical analysis of literary works, films, and art as they explore cultural formation. Through readings and discussions, courses promote personal growth and appreciation for diverse perspectives, while connecting students with people, cultural products, and viewpoints from French-speaking regions worldwide, including France, Canada, West Africa, and other areas where French is widely spoken.
The BS French Teaching degree includes supplementary coursework through the College of Education, along with specialized training in K-12 language teaching methodologies provided by the Department of World Languages & Cultures. For detailed program information and requirements, we encourage you to reach out to a French department faculty advisor.
