The Bachelor of Science (BS) in chemistry follows an American Chemical Society (ACS)-approved program. This course of study adheres to ACS guidelines for comprehensive coverage across chemistry's specialized fields. Graduates with a BS in chemistry can explore diverse career paths. Our graduates hold chemistry positions at local small businesses, major corporations, and government agencies. Numerous alumni continue their education in graduate programs spanning chemistry, medical fields, pharmaceutical sciences, and legal studies.
The BS teaching track in chemistry prepares students for Minnesota's 9-12 Chemistry teaching certification. Details about the Chemistry 9-12 BS teaching curriculum appear in the Science Teaching Programs BS section. Program requirements are outlined in the subsequent Chemistry department policies.
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in chemistry provides students with fundamental knowledge across all chemistry disciplines. This program incorporates additional liberal arts coursework to create a more well-rounded education and enhance career flexibility. The chemistry BA serves as excellent preparation for health profession programs, with many graduates entering Medical, Physician Assistant, Pharmacy, and Dental programs. BA chemistry graduates also qualify for laboratory roles or pharmaceutical/medical device sales and support positions.
The chemistry minor covers three chemistry subfields and teaches essential laboratory techniques.
