Criminal Justice is a field focused on maintaining and defending social order within democratic societies. It incorporates fundamental values like democratic governance, legal principles, constitutional rights, individual freedoms, and protecting people from threats and injustice. The Criminal Justice program, built upon the University's liberal arts foundation, equips students for advanced studies or professional roles in this field. Graduates are prepared to pursue ongoing growth in diverse real-world environments. Four key developmental areas form the framework for this curriculum.
The Criminal Justice Department dedicates itself to delivering an excellent liberal arts education. Students will also develop awareness of their dual roles as justice system practitioners and engaged community members. As part of a public institution, the Department maintains a strong public service commitment. The University's core curriculum cultivates essential skills for success in criminal justice careers and civic life, including: effective verbal and written communication; quantitative reasoning and logical analysis; understanding scientific methodology; cultural awareness through arts; valuing human diversity and ethical principles in free societies; comprehending societal politics and America's federal system; recognizing individual roles within families, groups, and organizations; developing moral discernment; and fostering personal growth across physical, social, and psychological dimensions.
